Environment award for Henkel SPIC India

Henkel becomes the first company to participate in the biggest sustainability initiative of the European soap and detergent industry

The Indian subsidiary Henkel SPIC India has won the Environmental Prize 2002/2003 of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). With the award, the FICCI recognized the management´s accomplishments in the sustainable conduct of business, as well as the numerous activities promoting continuous improvement in the areas of environmental protection and safety.
Henkel SPIC India is the first detergent facility in India to be certified to the international environmental management standard, ISO 14001. Henkel SPIC India can also report success in occupational safety, as the plant in Karaikal has been accident-free since February 2000.
Many of the projects of the employees of Henkel SPIC India become models for other affiliated companies, for example, their careful water management. Production wastewater is treated and fed back into the production cycle. The employees also participate in projects aimed at helping society at large. Neighboring hospitals, for example, are given medical supplies. Furthermore, Henkel SPIC India has planted 3,000 trees inside and outside the site boundary in a project aimed at systematically reforesting the surrounding landscape.
