Henkel signs Charter for Sustainable Cleaning

Henkel becomes the first company to participate in the biggest sustainability initiative of the European soap and detergent industry

On May 24, 2005, Dr. Klaus Morwind, Executive Vice President Laundry & Home Care, signed the Charter for Sustainable Cleaning of the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products (A.I.S.E.). The aim of the Charter is to demonstrate the industry´s continuing willingness to act voluntarily in the interests of society and the environment.

Before it could sign, Henkel had to pass the official “Charter entrance check.” In the presence of an accredited external verifier, an assessment was carried out to determine the extent to which Henkel´s development, production, application and disposal processes for detergent and cleaning products satisfy the Charter´s criteria for sustainability practices. The result was positive and the Company was therefore able to participate in the Charter.

“This is a continuation of Henkel´s proven tradition of going beyond legislative requirements and voluntarily aligning its business practices to the future needs of society and the environment” said Morwind.
